Our Triops (Tadpole Shrimp)

Unenhanced grungy photo of triops Enhanced photo of triops Enhanced photo of triops
Our last triops finally died at the age of 70 (days, that is) and from what we've been able to learn that's VERY old for a triops.

We started them in the plastic tub provided in the kit. The day after we set them up twelve hatched. Shortly after these photos were taken (The triops are less than half an inch long) we transferred them to a well lighted, temperature controlled, un-aerated, 10 gallon aquarium with fine sand at the bottom. We were amazed at how quickly the nice clean water got mucky. So we changed the water once a week. Trouble was that every time we did this a triops or two died within a day. So we quit doing that.

We kept all the sand so we figure we have a pretty good supply of eggs.

We found a wonderful triops (and other primeval shrimp) video here
