Pretty simple, right?
What you put in the blank makes all the difference.
When the idea occurred to me the blank contained "shitheads", and after all these years I still think that's what belongs there. I tend to be realistic.
Most will argue that they're not ALL shitheads, but the exceptions just keep the rule in stark relief. The stars are bright, the night is black.
Of course, I try to hang out with only the ones who don't act like shitheads in my presence, but that's only barely palliative. My little circle in the light of a little torch. It's hard to ignore the idea of the paradise this planet would be if the vast majority of the inhabitants were not shitheads, if the light were the sun instead of just a little torch. That thought experiment ought to convince you right there.
Of course, you CAN focus on certain more attractive dealings with only a miniscule fraction of the more attractive of the 7 billion _________ on the planet and call that YOUR meaning of life. You can pretend that there is no more to the world than what the light of your little torch shines on (That's being pretty small isn't it?), but that's just a cop-out which demonstrates that the real meaning of life is what I've stated above with "shitheads" in the blank.
